24th March 201610 Reasons to do Pilates
10th May 2016What is Pilates?
It is an exercise system invented by a chap called Joseph Pilates. It mainly focuses on conditioning your postural muscles. These are the ones that should be working all day, every day to maintain good posture. Why is this important?
Well good posture means your body weight goes through the bits of your body it is supposed to. This means you are less likely to get pain!Your muscles often get deconditioned with modern day life and sedentary jobs. Pilates gets you moving normally again and conditions your body and your mind. The more you do something, the better and more efficient you get at it. Good practice makes perfect!
Can I do it if I have pain?
Yes! We teach a modified version of Pilates where any of the exercises can be made easier or harder depending on the level of the individual. Even if you have had a back operation you can still attend following your first few weeks of recovery. Check out some of our testimonials & reviews from people we have helped.Back pain? Is Pilates right for me? Can I do it?!
Have you had long standing lower back pain?
Do you have to sit a lot for your job?
Do you feel stiff a lot of the time?
Do you think your back is weak?

If the answer is “yes” to any of these then the answer is yes you would benefit from it !
Why is it different?
It moves all the joints and muscles in your body through their normal motions to improve flexibility. This is something we don’t do in day to day living. It conditions all your muscles to perform well for you in day to day life and to reduce any pain you have by addressing muscle imbalances.
One of the key principles is that you should be able to breathe normally. This ensures that you are not going tense and rigid which can lead to more pain!
If you would like to get rid of long standing niggles, stiffness and pain, come to Pilates!
In the inventor's own words “Pilates develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind, and elevates the spirit”
Or in modern day language “you’ll feel awesome!”
